English Oak Chatelaine

The English Oak Chatelaine comes with a lovely pair of sharp Etui embroidery scissors. This Chatelaine is an excellent way to always keep your scissors to hand. Made in England from Pewter, this decorative piece covered in pretty hearts, makes a beautiful addition to any embroiders box.

A chatelaine chain was an accessory worn by ladies at their waist, from which sewing tools, keys, spectacles, a handbag, or a purse were suspended. The sewing chatelaine was very popular during the reign of Queen Victoria from around 1850 and disappeared around 1904, when fashion changed and skirts were no longer worn as long or voluminous. As a decorative item worn at the waist, the first appearance of “chatelaines” dates from 1845.  All chatelaines are supplied with scissors.
